The Wright Brothers
Wilbur and Orville Wright the brothers of science. Wilbur Wright was born on April 16, 1867 in Millville, Indiana. Orville on the other hand was born on August 19, 1871 in Dayton, Ohio. Who knew that the existence of these to brothers would change the way people travel today.
On December 17, 1903 the world of transportation changed dramatically. On that monumental day of science the first controlled, powered and sustained heavier than air human flight occurred. The brothers real breakthrough was when they invented the three-axis control. This control made it possible for pilots to control where the plane was flying.

"If birds can glide for long periods of time, then... why can't I?" -Orville Wright
Wilbur Wright had written a letter to the Smithsonian Institution requesting information about flight experiments. 1899, was when they planned their first aircraft. A sort of small glider like kite that was used to figure out the supposed handling of a larger scale plane. They wanted to control the piece by using wind warping. Creating the first successful airplane in 1903. They launched their first plane in Kitty Hawk, NC.
The wright brothers spent a lot of their time watching birds studying their form. They started to notice a pattern. Birds flew into the wind as the air would run over their wings creating lift. This was quite a big accomplishment because lots of people had watched birds and wondered how they flew, but no one had taken the way birds flew and created a way humans could do the same thing.
After the Wright Brothers many accomplishments they had an award named after them! This award was named The Wright Brothers "Master Pilot" award. This award isn't just given to anyone. This award is given to pilots with at least 50 years of flight!
" Isn't it astonishing that all these secrets have been preserved for so many years just so we could discover them!" - Orville Wright
