Thomas Edison
Thomas Edison invented some of the most influential products to life around the world. His most known invention is the light bulb but he also invented the phonograph and the motion-picture camera. I chose him because without him we might not have some of the electronics we have today like the light bulb, video cameras, or record players.
Thomas Edison grew up in Port Huron, Michigan. Edison was home schooled by his mother after his teacher complained about him not paying attention.
J.U. MacKenzie, a father of a boy named Jimmie trained Thomas to become a telegrapher after Edison saved his three- year old son from being hit by a runaway train. When Thomas Edison was 19 he moved to Kentucky where he worked as the Associated Press bureau new wire at Western Union. Soon he was fired for reading and experimenting during his night shift. He also married and had three children.
Edison's first phonograph was recorded on tinfoil around a cylinder. It had poor sound quality and the recordings could be played only a few times, but this machine was what made Thomas Edison rise to fame, he was soon known as "The Wizard of Menlo Park," New Jersey.
Another invention he was famous for was the light bulb. Thomas Edison did not invent the first light bulb, just the first one that lasted for long periods at a time. On October 22, 1879 his light bulb lasted 13.5 hours, this was his first successful experiment.
Edison continued to try to improve his light bulb and invent other important inventions during his lifetime.
Edison died of diabetes on October 18, 1931.
