Who is Ben Carson? (Early Life)

Ben Carson is a famed neurosurgeon, known for separating conjoined twins and performing great surgeries. He was brought up in a poor family in Detroit, Michigan by his mother and father, Sonya and Robert Carson. When Sonya was 13 years old, she sought a better life and married Robert, hoping to live well. He was kind for a while, but he became a different person and they split. Ben and his brother, Curtis, struggled as children with their mom working 2 or 3 jobs at a time and always being gone. He decided he wanted to be a doctor when he was waiting in a hospital and he saw the doctors rushing people around, working hard and accepting the challenge of helping others. Ben thought of his name coming over the PA, and then he decided he wanted to become a doctor.

Major Accomplishments

Ben Carson has done many great things in his 62 years. He's been in 2 movies, Stuck on You and Numbers and Friends, and has written a book. He is working on another book that will be published very soon in 2014. Ben Carson is most famed for successfully separating conoined twins at the head, leading a 70-man surgical team over 22 hours. He worked through his rough childhood and tried to become a surgeon, which he did and is a very skilled and successful one. A White House ceremony was held specifically for Ben Carson's achievements. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This is the greatest award to be given to a civilian in history.

Cameron K. - Wisconsin. I chose Ben Carson because he is an amazing neurosurgeon and a great role model. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the greatest medal any civilian can receive without being of any special status. I enjoy many things like my two dogs, watching movies, friends, talking, and food.
