James Watson was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 6, 1928. After graduating from High school he considered majoring in ornithology because of his fascination of bird watching. He enrolled at the University of chicago at age 15. During college he changed his professional ambision from ornithology to genetics. He later got his Bachelor of Science degree in 1947 from the University of Chicago. He also got his doctoral degree from Indiana University in 1950. In 1956, Watson became a junior member of Harvard University's Biological Laboratories. He became the director of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island, N.Y., in 1968. In 1968 at CSHL, he shifted his research emphasis to the study of cancer. In 1994, he started as president of CSHL and served for 10 years. He was appointed chancellor of CSHL, serving until 2007, when he resigned due to a controversial racial comment made during an interview.http://www.timetoast.com/timelines/james-d-watson
